Session 1 · 35–50 minutes

Scripture as the Foundation

Begin with the text—not the trend, reaction, or algorithm.

01 / 06

Use this session on my own

Read every passage in context, write through the Wrestle questions, and finish with one practice you will complete before returning.

Read first

2 Timothy 3:14–17Psalm 119:105James 1:22–25

Teaching focus

Christian formation begins with a settled source of authority. Scripture does more than supply inspiring language; it reveals God’s character, exposes what is false in us, and trains us for faithful action. We read it to be shaped, corrected, and sent.

The goal is not to collect verses that confirm what we already think. We come with humility, attend to context, and allow the whole witness of Scripture to confront both the culture around us and the habits within us. Hearing becomes obedience when truth changes what we do next.

Key truths

  • 01God is the author of truth; we receive truth before we attempt to apply it.
  • 02Scripture equips believers for faithful action, not passive information.
  • 03Clarity requires patient reading, honest context, and a teachable spirit.

Wrestle

  1. Where do you most often look for authority before you look to Scripture?
  2. What is the difference between using a verse and submitting to the biblical text?
  3. What truth have you understood intellectually but not yet practiced?

Practice before the next session

Read James 1:22–25 slowly three times. Write one command, one warning, and one action you can take within twenty-four hours.

Bring it home

Family conversation

Ask: “What voice gets the most attention in our home, and how can we make room to hear God’s Word together?”

Make it visible

Service step

Encourage one person this week with a Scripture reference and a specific offer of practical help.

Close in prayer

God of truth, give us humble hearts, clear minds, and willing hands. Teach us to receive Your Word honestly and to do what it requires. Amen.

Make room for reflection

Keep your Scripture notes and responses in the printable workbook.

Session 1 of 6

For hosts and households

Lead with clarity and care.

BEFORE

Read the passages in context. Pray for your participants. Choose one practice you will complete alongside them.

DURING

Let Scripture set the pace. Invite honest questions, refuse contempt, and never pressure someone to disclose private information.

AFTER

Follow up on the practice and service step. If minors participate, keep every activity parent- or guardian-led.

After Foundations

What should I study next?

Choose the place where formation most needs to become practice. We will only call a path open when there is something real to use.

After Foundations, I want to strengthen…
